Figure skating is my passion and I work hard to make sure it’s my students’ passion as well.  For me, time on the ice working with students isn’t a job – it’s a joy. I look forward to every lesson and I think your skater will, too.

A coach is more than a teacher. A coach is a role model for her students and I take that responsibility seriously. You’ll find that I respect my students’ lesson time and strive to be organized, fair, reliable, and nurturing. My job doesn’t end when I step off the ice; I communicate with parents about their skater’s progress and I encourage an open dialogue between parents and myself.

Each student is unique. My students and I discuss their personal skating goals and my job is to help them reach those goals, no matter how big or small. I take a personal approach to each student and tailor my coaching techniques to meet each one’s individual needs and learning styles.

My own skating goal is to be on the cutting edge of figure skating coaching best practice. I am a strong supporter of professional development for figure skating coaches and I take continuing education courses and attend seminars to learn the best techniques for teaching my skaters.

On the ice, I use coaching tools to assist my students to learn solid figure skating skills. In a lesson, I use the Pro-Motion Pole Harness (a.k.a. “The fishing pole harness”) to assist skaters with jumps. I also use Champion Cords and ankle weights to help skaters progress with proper technique. Most recently, I’ve added the power of Dartfish computer video analysis software to study my skaters’ jumps and spins, so we spend less time correcting errors and more time on proper body positioning.

Below you’ll find my credentials, memberships, and completed continuing education courses. For lesson rates, references, and to set up a free trial lesson, please contact me: marieh2001@hotmail.com
