On-Line Registration A two-step procedure
Step 1. Go to: http//www.learntoskateusa.com This registration is an ANNUAL registration with USFS. July 1 through June 30. Once registered do not register again. If you do not have a USFS number then click on "Sign in" and follow registration process. If you already have a Basic Skills or Learn to Skate number and you have not renewed for this fiscal year, July 1 through June 30th, then click on "Log in" and register using your USFS number. You will have to create a password if you do not have one.
USFS will walk you through your Learn to Skate registration process. Parents, register your skaters name not yours.
USFS Registration fee: $12.00 One time annual fee.
Pay on line with credit card.
USFS will mail you your “Welcome Packet” with your identification card, class record books and other pertinent materials.
2. Next Register for your class(es) with the Southern Wisconsin Skating School.
You will need your USFS # to register for class
http://www.swfsc.org and click on either the link at the bottom of the home page or on the the Learn to Skate tab on left of home page.
Follow procedure to register for the class (es). Parents use your skater’s name and your skater’s USFS identification number.
Pay the class fee on line or mail a check to Pam Schuh, Treasurer, 1220 Kings Lynn Rd., Stoughton WI 53589. A late fee is automatically applied if registration is after the deadline date. Registrations accepted on a first come basis Once registered, plan on attending that class.

Eligible Skaters: Six years and under. No previous experience on the ice.

A. Sit and stand up with skates on – off-ice
B. Sit and stand up – on-ice
C. March in place
D. March forward (8-10 steps)
E. March, then glide on two feet
F. Dip in place

Prerequisite: Having passed Snowplow Sam 1.
A. March followed by a long glide
B. Dip while moving
C. Backward walking, toes turned inward,
shifting weight (4-6 steps)
D. Backward wiggles (6 in a row)
E. Forward swizzles (2-3 in a row)
F. Beginning snowplow stop motion – in place or
holding onto barrier
G. Two-foot hop, in place (optional)

Prerequisite: Having passed Snowplow Sam 2.
A. Forward skating (8-10 strides)
B. Forward one-foot glide, two times
skater’s height (R and L)
C. Forward swizzles (4-6 in a row)
D. Backward swizzles (2-3 in a row)
E. Moving forward snowplow stop (two-foot)

Prerequisite: Having passed Snowplow Sam 3.
NOTE: Based on the age and ability of the child after completion of Snowplow Sam 3, the sakter can successfully advance to Basic 2 or Hockey 2, or progress to Snowplow Sam 4.

D. Rocking horse – one forward, one backward

Ages 7 and up. Introductory level class for those students who have never had lessons or students who have never skated. Skills taught.

Must have Passed Basic 6. This class will teach beginning Moves in the Field Patterns, as well as turns and steps that can be useful in footwork sequences. Must have passed Basic 6.

Prerequisite: Having Passed Hockey 2 or Snowplow 4 (6 years and under) or Basic 3

• HECC Approved Hockey Helmet
A. Lateral crossover march (both directions)
B. Forward C-Cuts (1/2 swizzle pumps) on a circle, both directions
C. Forward outside edges on half circles
(large C’s), alternating feet on the short
or long axis of the rink
D. Forward inside edges on half circles
(large C’s), alternating feet on the short
or long axis of the rink
E. Backward C-Cuts (1/2 swizzle pumps)
on a circle, both directions
F. Backward snowplow stops: One foot and two feet V-stop
G. One-foot moving snowplow stop
(Right and Left), introduce 1/4 turn with hips to hockey stop

Techniques taught:
A. Quick starts using forward V-Start
B. Backward one-foot glide, right and left
C. Forward Crossover glides (clockwise and counter-clockwise). Hold feet in crossed positon for 2 counts
D. Backward Crossover glides (clockwise and counter-clockwise). Hold feet in
crossed positon for 2 counts
E. Forward Crossovers on circle, clockwise
and counterclockwise (4-6 each)
F. Backward crossovers on circle, clockwise and counterclockwise (4-6 each)
G. Hockey Stops (stopping to the left and to the right, with speed)
«Bonus Skill: Forward to backward Mohawk pivots (both directions, right and left) from powerful, full strides

For siblings/friends not currently enrolled in a class who would like to skate during class time on the practice area. $5.00/ day, walk on. YOU MUST SIGN THE WAIVER. Parents of enrolled skaters are free. YOU MUST SIGH THE WAIVER at the registration desk before taking to the ice.
